The PONY4 is an innovative bicycle. Thanks to smart technological solutions it combines the advantages of a 4-wheel vehicle with comfort and light weight. The PONY4 offers solutions when a classical bike is not good enough in means of stability, cargo capacity, seat ergonomics or safety.
The PONY4 is a joint initiative of 2 German and one Czech company: Velomo, FLEVÒ International and Katanga .
All are active in the development, production or sales of recumbent bicycles and velomobiles.
It all started with the search for a bicycle which I can ride even with my “limitations”. I have had multiple sclerosis since 1996 and for the last two years I had increased problems with my sense of balance. This led to the fact that I was threatened to fall down from my normal bike. I was almost ready to distance myself from the idea of being able to ride a bicycle.
It reads like the most unlikely choice but we don’t regret it! When we decided to set up our sustainable small-hold at the southern edge of the Scandinavian mountains we knew we were going to aim for a cutting edge logistic solution.
When I decided to acquire a dog, I realized that I would have to give up some activities that I like. Or at least limit them. One of my big joys was biking. I could of course lead my dog next to my bike but that is in city traffic not safe for me nor my dog. Enjoy time on the bike in the nature without my four-legged friend would be too sad. But one should never give up hope! And the solution was found with the PONY4!
4 WHEELS FOR EXTREME STABILITY
No worries about balance at cornering or at start/stop, even with moving loads like kids or dogs. Just sit, pedal and enjoy the ride.
PINION/ROHLOFF GEARING
PINION: High-end German drive technology. Reliable and carefree shifting with a 600 % range for the C1.12 gearbox. ROHLOFF: The Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 gear-unit. 526 % of range and long lasting durability.
LIGHT WEIGHT Cro-Mo FRAME
This robust and light 2’’Cro-Mo frame weighs only 2,5 kg and can carry 200 kg.
ERGONOMIC SEATING POSITION
Relax seat position allows long trips without pain in neck, back, wrists or bottom. Compared to common trikes the seat is placed higher and it is easier to step in and out.
SAFE DRUM BRAKES
Two independent lightweight 90mm drum brakes offer plenty of carefree brake power. Parking brake function on both brake levers.
FULLY SUSPENDED
Composite leaf springs connect in a simple and functional way the wheels to the central frame tube. Self-damping in the front and with a hydraulic damper on the rear axle they contribute to the comfortable riding style.
